IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM IN REDUCING GENDER VIOLENCE AS PERCEIVED BY FEMALE ATHLETES IN FEDERAL UNIVERSITY DUTSIN-MA, KATSINA STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study examined the perceived impact of social media platform in reducing gender violence among faculty of education female athletes in Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State. The study targeted all 78 female athletes from one to four hundred levels at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State. Purposive sampling technique was used to choose all the 78 female students present in the school for the study. Questionnaire was used to collect data from respondents in this study. The instrument was faced and content validated by two lecturers in the Faculty of Education, one in the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education and other from Department of Science Education, Educational Technology Unit Federal University Dutsin-Ma, in Katsina State. The reliability of the instrument was established using test re-test and the reliability co-efficient value of 0.70 was obtained. Findings of this study showed that respondents agreed that Social Media Platform benefits have positive impact in reducing gender violence among women in sports. In addition, there is no significant difference in the impact of social media platform in reducing gender violence in sports as perceived by female athletes in the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State based on level of experiences. Based on the findings, it was recommended that Sports Managers should encourage the use of social media platform in educating women in sports in order to reduce gender violence among women in sports.
