COUNSELLING STRATEGIES FOR REDUCING CYBERCRIME AMONG YOUTHS IN ANAMBRA STATE
Abstract
This study determined the counselling strategies for reducing cybercrime among youths in Anambra State. This study adopted the descriptive survey research design. One purpose statement guided the study. The population for this study comprised of 360 professional counsellors in Anambra State. The sample for the study comprises 100 guidance counsellors selected using simple random sampling technique (balloting with replacement). The instrument for data collection is a 7 - item structured questionnaire titled "Counselling Strategies Questionnaire (CCCSQy)" The questionnaire was validated by three experts drawn from the Department of Guidance and Counselling in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The Reliability coefficient yielded a value of 0.81. Data collected through direct delivery approach were analyzed using arithmetic mean. The findings of this study revealed that the grand mean shows a 2.76 mean score and means that the respondents agreed to the counselling strategies for curbing cybercrime among youths in Anambra State. Hence it was recommended among others that youths should be encouraged on the need for self-employment rather than depending on paid jobs with are unavailable. They should learn to believe in self-employment creation, youths should opt to have creative ideas, think outside the box and be able to create more lucrative jobs for themselves. Hence if this mindset is developed, they will be better individuals and leaders of tomorrow.
