INFLUENCE OF SCHOOL FACILITIES ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN DUTSIN-MA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, KATSINA STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract
This study investigated the influence of school facilities on students’ academic performance in junior secondary school in Dutsin-Ma, Dutsin-Ma LGA, Katsina State, Nigeria. A Cross sectional survey research design was used for this study. The population for the study comprises of all the Junior Secondary School (JSS) Students in Dutsin-Ma, bringing the total respondents 2,376. Stratified random sampling technique was used to choose 146 respondents as the target respondents. Three research questions and one hypothesis were used to elucidate information from the respondents. A self-structured questionnaire was used to generate data from the sampled respondents. The research questions were analyzed using mean and standard deviation and the hypotheses using Chi-square with the aid of SPSS. The findings of the study indicated that school facilities influence students’ academic performance. The study concluded that there is a Positive and significant relationship between school infrastructural facilities and students’ academic performance in junior secondary schools in Dutsin-Ma, Dutin-Ma LGA Katsina State. It therefore recommends among others, that the government should make available all the necessary school facilities to enhance teaching and learning.
